We didn't actually look at it from the social or political commentary to be and shot this movie from a fantasy perspective, so that's probably a big part of our enjoyment. The trailer of the third film, in many ways, made the movie seem like a horror-picture expansion of the vitriolic, hate-fueled disarray of a Trump rally. We learn the Roan herself was a victim of a purge eighteen years previously, leading to the death of her family. As with the previous entries, Election Year directed and is composed by James DeMonaco, and though his first movie was an interesting theory that left much to be desired, he's all but made up for it with the two follow ups.

And while I believe The Purge: Anarchy is not worse than the first movie, I believed it got a lot incorrect, leaning on some cheap set ups and some moves that were clear. The most recent involved a 19-year old Indianapolis man who supposedly was inspired by The Purge to murder three people over the course of four nights in May 2016. It's been two years since Leo Barnes (Frank Grillo) ceased himself from a regrettable act of reprisal on Purge Nighttime. Moreover, it is worth noting that previous pictures in the Purge franchise (there have been three, beginning with Purge in 2010) have been linked to several brutal copycat crimes. The seeds for this particular move into political commentary have not been absent since The Purge first came to theaters in 2013.
